I come from Navrongo in the upper east region of Ghana in Africa. I was brought up in a society where the child is brought up to hit back at another child who hits you, or else your parents will beat you. Children were and are still unconciously brought up to be violent AND I guess I too am guilty IN SOME WAYS.

I MAKE THIS PROMISE TO MY SON JOOJO AND DAUGHTER EWURAMA THAT FROM TODAY I WILL THROUGH MY DEEDS AND ACTIONS TEACH THEM TO ABHOR VIOLENCE, TO DIALOGUE AND TO FORGIVE THOSE WHO OFFEND THEM.

To day is the 21st March in Australia and as I opened my emails I was delighted to find an email from Becky registering to wail on the 24th March 2006. What she write is below, but before you read that, I wantt to say that I straight away send an email back to Becky and asked her if she would make a promise to the children of the world. Within a few minutes the above very personal and very specail promise arrived from across the world, from a mother who I feel very close to. Thank you Becky for your promise and the wailing you will continue on the 24th, you make me know that, together we can change the world for all the children.

What Becky wrote when she registered to wail.

I am from Navrongo in the upper east region of ghana in west africa, but i live and work in accra the capital city.

I founded the mothers for active non-violence, a peace building non-govermental organisation. We are a group of women who believe in the use of active non-violence in conflict resolution. We pledge to nurture our children and train them to reject all forms of violence and to opt for non-violence techniques at all times.

I will continue the wailing on 24th marchwhich is my birth day. I will encourage my friends and colleagues to join in the wailing.
