 The power of the Internet
July 17 2002, The day after I wrote the One Mind One Voice poem
it dawned on me to email it to Ofir Nafkar, a musician in Israel
whose father comes from Baghdad. Through visiting my website, Ofir
had contacted me just two weeks before. When the poem arrived in
Israel, Ofir sent back a message which said, “ Your poem landed
in my imagination, and I had to stop what I was doing and compose
the music for it” The fact he was in the middle of recording
his latest album in Hebrew made this all the more special. When finished
he sent it on to my Afghani friend Yahya. Yahya who was in the middle
of exams made the poem into a short movie.
Meanwhile I worked to build a website of the same name.
www.onemindonevoice.org launched on September 11 2002.
Our message to the world, spread quickly via Internet. Within three
weeks President Jacques Chirac had contacted me to say he agreed
with the sentiments of my poem.
Still on a high from receiving an email with the flag of the President
of France, next day another arrived that would change the course
of my journey to where I never dreamed I would be.
Arsenio Rodriguez emailed me from Puerto Rico. He invited my granddaughter
and me (who they had renamed Caitlin Jean Futurist Australia) to
join up with an alliance of like–minded people. This alliance
comprised Nobel Peace Prizewinners, Oscar Arias Sanchez and Betty
Williams, and others like Deepak Chopra, Noam Chomsky, singer Ricky
Martin, astronaut Franklin Chang and Kerry Kennedy-Cuomo.
In my soul I knew from the first very beautiful email from Arsenio
that this was where I was meant to be. I accepted their invitation
to be on their advisory council – a great honour for a very
poor unemployed grandmother from Australia.
Within a short time through Arsenio and Dan Spinner who was running
Deepak Chopra's foundation, I was introduced to Peter Okilo an IT
Guru. We could see my roll with the Alliance as not only being a
Australian rep - but the person to set up an alliance for children.
