The Alliance for the New Humanity is a coming together of open hearts and minds in a global vision that can lead us, urgently, to a more compassionate, harmonious and equitable human society.
I am pleased to say, at the end of May 2003, I received an official letter from Oscar Arias Sánchez, on behalf of the Alliance Board of Directors.
Ms. Kerry Bowden
Dear Ms. Bowden:
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Alliance for the New Humanity (ANH) I would like to extend to you an invitation to become a member of our Honorary Advisory Council to give us your moral support and guidance in an urgent task of profound human concern. As you know the ANH is a non-denominational, non-political, non-ideological assembly of people from all walks of life whose goal is "to connect those who strive for peace, social justice and ecological balance, in order to generate a critical mass of consciousness, that influences public policy and ensures that its foundations are compassion, the inherent dignity and oneness of all human beings, and a nurturing relationship with nature."
As you are well aware, quantum leap advances in science and technology make possible today the solution of humanity's gravest problems: the misery of the majority of its population and the degradation of natural systems. Instead we see an exacerbation of inequalities, the misuse of technology and the preponderance of the message "everyone for themselves" in mainstream media, entertainment and advertisement. We are witnessing an accelerated undermining of our noblest spiritual values and the promotion of unbridled consumption patterns that have negative impacts on our social fabric, the environment and individual serenity.
Yet there are millions upon millions in the world who are yearning for peace, change, serenity. Daily, individually, and through a multitude of organizations, "centers for a new humanity" support actions for human rights, peaceful conflict resolution, and ecological balance.
The Alliance purports, "one step at a time", to connect these "centers" in a global exchange mechanism and bring together people who wish to build a human society on more just, spiritual and peaceful bases than those of today, to consolidate a critical mass of humanity to influence national and international policies that are aligned with these principles. One mind one voice as you say in your inspiring web page.
We truly need your help. Your vision, your dedicated work with the aborigines, your sensitivity to humankind are essential for this Alliance to succeed and find the collective answers to this state of human emergency we find ourselves now, and to build the foundations for a New Humanity
We are launching the Alliance in San Juan Puerto Rico, from 12th to 14th December 2003 with an event to: promote connectivity amongst individuals and organizations nurturing a better humanity through their work for peace, social justice and ecological balance and a conference on "the illusion makers"; in search of a mainstream communications platform that celebrates life and primes more just, ethical and equitable policies and social behavior.
The Conference will focus on the impact of media and the role it can play in shaping a new ethics. Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States will initiate the event with a keynote statement. The Dalai Lama, Leonardo Boff, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Fernando Savater, and many others who have addressed the ethical needs of our modernity, as well as media producers, personality icons, and world policy leaders have been invited to examine the impact of the media and propose suitable alternatives.
We would be most honored to have you present with us in the launching of this urgent effort to link humanity for hope and peace. We will be sending you a detailed program of the event in the near future. All your expenses would be covered by the Alliance.
On behalf of the Board of Directors,
Oscar Arias Sanchez
