Portrait of a Granma
15/02/2006
I was thinking this morning as I sat here quietly knitting, most books for
children still have pictures of Granma as this little old lady with
grey hair, pinned up in a bun, with glasses, comfortable dress,
overweight, wearing slippers, sitting in a rocking chair on the
veranda and knitting a blanket of many colours.
As I fast approach my 60th birthday, I wonder? have I become the old
lady in the storybooks?
I have greyish, blondish, redish hair, wear my glasses to read just
about everything. The hair is clipped up, as I decided that I couldn't
stand or afford to get it cut every few weeks. I keep telling myself I
must loss some weight.
But the rest - I don't know about? I am sitting here half naked,
barefoot, on a chair at this computer where I have been knitting a
blanket of love to put around the shoulders of the mothers around the
world who are right at this moment wailing the lost of their child to
our inhumanity.
This blanket I am knitting, is being made up of many different caring
people around the world who will be part of The Wailing I will start
on the 8th March. While I have had to make some changes, due to the
fact we can't get wireless Internet to the places I would have wailed
at in Sydney and the places I could get it near there were places I
would not feel comfortable wailing at. Just make sure you come onto
the website on the 8th. When I will recite The Wailing poem for the first time and send my wailing around the
world, knowing another mother/woman/caring male will be continuing it
not for me but for the mothers who while we peacefully slept away the night, they lost
their child to our inhumanity. It will be special, as Scot McPhie a film maker (now my very dear friend) will record the event for me and use it also
in the documentary he has been working on which has followed some of my
life over the past few years.
I have just added the very caring Jeremy from Korea and yesterday
my dear friend Carmen from Canada, who will wail in the Sacred Valley
in Peru. This is one very special blanket I am knitting. If you are or
know anyone from a different country. Let them know that this Granma
needs help with this very big warm blanket. The pattern says - take a
mother, women, caring male and let them wail on a day/their day on theWailing Calendar
and be
joined by thousands of others so the wailing vibrates unceasingly.
This has been an amazing week for me.
Not only because of how the
wailing is coming together, but I also received another Very Special Promise this one brought tears to my eyes as I read it.
To Evelin Gerda Lindner, now a soul sister, I say thank you. I am so blessed when people like you join with me to make it a better world for Caitlin and all children by the year 2015.
Yesterday was Valentine's Day and while I was not with that special
someone on the day, I was connected with him in spirit and that gave me
great joy. I will be spending quality time with him late next week.
Valentines Day should be about love — not just for one special person,
but for the whole human family.
So what better day to find out I am now a Love Ambassador.
