The Wailing-Gathers strength
28/01/2005
When I planned for The Wailing to start in Sydney, NSW, Australia and
not on the Sunshine Coast,Queensland where I live, it was because I
intended being at a Gather the Women event in Sydney at the time, so it
fitted to hold The Wailing while I was there at Mrs. Macquaries Chair
on International Women's Day.
When the Sydney congress was cancelled early this week I though
"&^#@&* I have bought some cheap plane tickets I can't really afford
that can't be changed *$#***% it would be easier to hold the event in
Queensland."
Then I decided that Mrs Macquaries Chair is the right place for me as
it has so much indigenous history and background to it and that makes
it a place I am always comfortable at.
I am so glad I did. So many lovely things are unfolding.
I decided yesterday to place the first little notice I had sent out to
you all about The Wailing on the Indymedia Sydney website.
Then in the afternoon was surprised to find someone had added the
artwork I had done for The Wailing logo.
Then this morning I find that person Stacy (I would say one of their
staff) had been onto The Promise Club website and gathered part of The
Wailing poem and placed it on the front page the Indymedia site.

It reminded me of something a dear friend and mentor Anita Aarons told
me a long time ago.
You don't have to have money to achieve great things - what you want to
achieve just has to be great - it will then just happen.
The Wailing is great - not because I am doing it etc etc - it is great
because it needs to be done - simply because..
While we speechlessly slept away the night
Others held their loved ones
Trying to patch their children's lives
Held them as they lay dying
Or stood beside their graves
The wailing is the same
A mother's pain is a mother's pain
We beg for this all to end
I might have written the poem and be starting the Wailing but it is
people like Stacy who will make sure it continues to vibrate around the
Globe so the ones causing the pain will know
We mothers will suffer this no more....
Let the wailing begin in Sydney on the 8th March 2006 where I will have
all the support I will need.
Have a good week.. I will as others already start to take up the
wailing before I start it..... how good is that.
love and hugs
Kerry
PS did I tell you I have decided to start writing another book, you will be
able to read it as I write it, so I best go and take the first step.
