Once upon a time….. in the land down under ( Australia) there lived a grandmother with a loving heart called Kerry. She is an artist. poet, actionist, who for many years had worked very hard to help make thing a bit better for indigenous people of Australia. Having a loving heart doesn't always mean you get things right, it just means you won't give up when you fail or when things get tough- you will always do the best you can with the resources you have.
So when in the year 2000 Granma Kerry made a promise to her then one day old grandchild - that she would work the rest of her life to make it a better world for Caitlin and all children by the year 2015. Kerry knew she would do as she promised. Others would see this as an impossible dream, Granma Kerry simply saw it as her duty.
Today is Wednesday the 30th of November 2005 and its Caitlin Jean's (Futurist Australia) fifth birthday - one third of the time to keep the promise made by Granma Kerry has now passed. Given the state of the world at the moment, some could consider her a extreme optimist, others might even say she is a fool. But they would only be people who don't know our Granma Kerry very well.
Some others have even suggest that Kerry would have been better spending the past five years of her time, making her own life - now an unemployed, Granma without a home or car of her own - a bit easier for her old age ahead.
Granma Kerry meanwhile headed off on a five-year journey of learning. Getting as she says her promise degree. As there was no promise schools, classes or UNI courses to be found, she simply came to her own conclusions, learnt by trial and error and the occasional stumbles and falls, writing her notes the form of the One Mind One Voice wbsite along the way.
Since September 2004 as the time drew closer to Caitlin's birthday, Granma Kerry knew that she must show the children of the world that progress has been made, thus giving them some hope for their future.
Then like a bolt of lighting - the path ahead lit up and she knew just what she needed to do for this promise to be achieved. Its was really so very simple - She knew to keep her promises she must get lots of other adults to do the same thing and make and keep their promises to the children of the world. Then she found me…
We now invite you to The Promise Club. When there please remember this site has been built by an unemployed Granma with no funds, just herself, an old computer and a loving heart - in a small space in a bedroom, in someone else's house. We will let you judge if she is a fool or as she says - poor but very wealthy…
What she hopes after you visit The Promise Club website, is that you know in your heart that nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it and think outside the square. No matter who you are or what your own situation might be - you too can make a difference.
Who am I you might ask? I am Caitlin's new friend Actionist the Unicorn; you will find me on the website. I have always lived in the hearts of children and will be there for them to guard the promises that Granma Kerry knows other adult earthlings will make and add to hers.
If an unemployed Granma can achieve The Promise Club - then just imagine what can be achieved if you like me decides to make a promise to the children of the world…… after all each child on this planet deserves a better world by the year 2015 we all know and want that don't we?
