Year of the Fire Dog
31/12/2005
For some the year 2006 begins at the stroke of midnight, and here in
Australia we get to celebrate it before many others around the world.
How quickly Christmas is over, all the visitors' bar one brother have
left and headed home. The food is still overflowing from the fridge's,
you rush off late at night to put the prawn and crab shells in the
garbage bins at the beach (knowing they unlike ours get emptied every
night)
Christmas 2005 was Mums time. Very special for my Mum having her five
children around for the first time in many years.
But for me it’s a time I feel most uncomfortable, as I see the waste
and materialism rule the thinking of so many people. I can't help but
think how many children around the world who are starving could have
survived on what just we as a family pigged out on or worse throw away.
Our idea of keeping it down to one present for each person did stop
some money going into the corporation's pockets. But the children who
were exempted got loads of gifts from all of us and already we are
being told "NOT TO BUY NOAH ANY MORE TOYS DURING THE YEAR."
How do I feel now its over …… exhausted? feeling I don't fit or belong
in this material world anymore. I am indeed a global citizen and as
such can only view the world as a whole and know that this being - that
becomes and knowing kids were dying while I stuffed my face, doesn't
sit easy with me anymore.
Thursday night I went with my Mum and brother up to my youngest sons
place and sat on the veranda of a very quiet rural property and looked
at the night sky and the dam nearby and my soul felt connected again.
It was like the material world was a million miles away
and I felt I belonged again for the first time in weeks. We then played
cards with the kids and laughed over a stupid game Jayk had been given
as a present. Which I found out yesterday was a free give away off a
magazine.
While we get ready to celebrate the New Year tonight, many other like
me will wait till the 29th January when the Chinese new year starts. I
found out 2006 will be my year.
THE FIRE DOG 1946 AND 2006
Dog: Dogs benefit greatly from the influence of their own year.
Endeavors are successful, career achievements are attained. and the
political climate is perfect for Dog's altruistic sensibilities.
Outstanding time for marriage, children, falling in love, and travel.
Political involvement brings rewards.
Hummmm I can live with all that.
Happy New Year to you all and know I intend that this will be a year
when I want to help the children of the world by first becoming a
better person myself. So I am ready to kept that promise of a better
world for them by 2015.
Yes the year 2006 is a very important year for the Promise Club… and
this Fire Dog…
The best present anyone can give me is - send me your promise to the
children of the world to add to mine.
love and hugs
Kerry
