Unconditional love
7/12/2005
Last Wednesday, when Caitlin had her birthday and turned five, I went down to her place and stayed over for the night. She had no big party
as it was a week night, it was just her mum, dad and myself there
for dinner. No lollies, cake or candles, as she had already had a cake
with her other grandmother during the day and was due for another one
at pre school the next day.
We played a few games, then Jay, her dad, took her to bed to read a
story something either Jay or Cherece do every night. After the story
Jay came out of the room and said " she wants Kerry", so I walk up the
hall and find her at the door. We hop into the other bed in her room,
which I use when visiting. I asked her if we could sing a song and
say "what about twinkle twinkle little star". We sing it together,
then she says, "how about we think of another song", just as I am
beginning to sing Ba Ba black sheep, at the precise time I start she
starts singing the same song, we both laugh and she thinks this is
magical. We think of other songs but this time she starts just as she
hears what the first word I sort of start is, but we laugh out loud and
have a great time, till I say time for sleep.
After a hug she rolls over towards the wall and I roll the other way on
the narrow bed.
I am just thinking that she must be asleep by now, when
all of a sudden she rolls over wraps herself around me and says. "Kerry
I love you so much and I have missed you sooooooooooooooo much" we hug
then she turns and sleeps.
I lie there thinking this is unconditional
love at its best. What Harold Becker from the USA mentions in his
promise now on the website.
Boy am I glad I decided to move back from the Far North in September to
be close enough for sleepovers.I had missed them soooooooooooo much.
Through the night I moved over to the other bed which is normally hers,
to give her more room, only to be woken very early to a very loud
" Kerry"
I woke thinking something awful had happened to her. " Your
supposed to be in this bed!" so I go over we have a hug and she goes
back to sleep.
She doesn't realise how much work I have put into the Promise Club
website. As we were so busy before dinner playing "My Pony" and
colouring in, I didn't even get around to showing her the website.
I will do that this week when I keep a promise of another sleepover. I
didn't build the website to impress her, I built it to gather as many
promises as I can for her and the children of the world.
The Promise Club is going very
well and I expect that over the next few weeks many more promises like
Harold's and the others will be added. Just going by the reaction so far, my five year
journey was worth every stumble and fall along the way. I know I am on
the right path for me to keep my promise to Caitlin and the children of
the world. Just added the first promise from Russia. Make sure you see
Bob Bowman's promise as well, its pretty special, given how he must be feeling at the moment. This new journey of mine is so
good and soooooooooooooo magical!
Funny thing is I can be as poor as can be, and have as many wrinkles as
the rest, but in a little girl's eyes… Her and I can make magic when we
think together… unconditional love is so magical… and can't be bought.
Have a good week I will, playing in the cubbyhouse where
A coat of love
we paint.
