My first Autograph

As we leave another Joy school

Just out near the car

A small girl asks for my autograph

A little book she takes from her bag

I write and sign for her

Before I am finished

I'm surrounded; this has started a chain reaction

I sign what I can, get in the car

It is hard to believe

Only so short a time before

I was an unemployed grandmother in Australia

Who had just made a promise?

When I sign my name from now on

Each child will know it is my promise

Of a better world for them all
