Kerry Bowden, is an artist, poet, peacemaker, Actionist, (a new word) and grandmother from Queensland, Australia, who on the first of December 2000, made a promise to her then one day old grandchild. A promise" to work the rest of my life to make it a better world for Caitlin and to do this, I must work to make it a better world for all children by the year 2015.
You can help Granma Kerry keep this promise - by being part of her new promise "to start The Wailing" Kerry is now calling on the women of the world to gather with her in a very powerful global wailing event she will start at dawn via the Internet on March the 8th 2006,
International Women's Day when she will recite the wailing poem for the first time.
What Kerry does know in her soul that this event is being started, as a global event, that will let mothers who are in great pain around the world, know they are never alone, that somewhere on each day of the year, from the 8th March 2006 another mother, women, or caring male has taken up her wailing.
This is also a time after we wail in our own way, to reflect and work out - how each of us can make it a better world for all children,
even in the smallest way, by simply saving water, picking up rubbish, to larger projects and protests, writing letters, volunteering, praying, walking more then taking the car, we each have things we can do to make this a better world, it is for each of us to decide, it is not for Granma Kerry to tell you how or what to do.....taking this time to listen to your own soul..... you will know what you can do
The Wailing is a very personal journey and so in keeping with this, Kerry will hold her wailing in her own spiritual place. Others will hold the wailing event, in their way in their spiritual space in a way they feel suits them
On the 8th March 2006 anyone anywhere in the world can join Kerry via the internet and share with her the
start of the wailing as she recites The Wailing poem for the first time and wail as the poem says - Out loud or simply in silence. Until The Wailing starts on the 8th March 2006, Kerry is not sure how she will wail. These things can not be rehearsed or false. It will be a happening, that you can share with her. After the wailing we will sit and reflect on how we can all make it a better world for all children by the year 2015. Perhaps like Kerry you might like to Make a Promise to the children of the world.
All Kerry is asking is that you take the time to read The Wailing poem. Then select a day or more and register them, as your day/days, when you plan to wake and be ready for the dawn, to recite the poem and wail for the women of the world.
Also use this day (your day) to reflect and consider how and what you can do to make it a better world for all children by the year 2015.Then as the end of the poem says
Together as we face the light of each new day
Let the wailing vibrate unceasingly
As we go back to our own lives knowing
Another mother has taken up your wailing.
There is now within you a small part of each and every mother
United in one cause to protect not only your own
But each and every child.
As the sound of wailing reverberates around the world
Let us hope those causing pain will hear
And know - we mothers will suffer this no more!

Yes of course caring men are invited to be part of this event, as is every one regardless of age, gender, faith, country or culture, who wishes to be part of The Wailing. Granma Kerry knows it will take ALL OF US TOGETHER to make it a better world for all children by the year 2015.
